Ciliary Beat Frequency (CBF) analysis software [DIPP-CBF]

Ciliary Beat Frequency (CBF) analysis software

Ciliary Beat Frequency analysis software [DIPP-CBF]

DIPP-CBF is software designed to measure the activity of ciliary motion. Instead of evaluating cilia activity subjectively as simply "active" or "inactive," the software quantifies and visualises ciliary motion as a frequency response, enabling objective and reproducible analysis.

  • Wide-area measurement with low magnification, analysing groups of cells for higher statistical objectivity.
  • Low impact on cells, suitable for time-course evaluation and changing experimental conditions.
  • Compatible with both dedicated and existing high-speed cameras.
  • Flexible filtering settings with recommended or user-defined options.
  • High-speed processing improves research efficiency.
  • Centralised data management for both numerical data and images.

This software was developed with the cooperation and guidance of the Japan Automotive Research Institute and Professor Takehiko Ogawa (Tokushoku University).

Data obtained using this software (high-speed camera system) were used in the presentation by Tsuyoshi Ito (Japan Automobile Research Institute) at the 38th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society for Alternatives to Animal Experiments held on 1 November 2025, titled: "Observation of Temperature-Dependent Changes in Ciliary Beat Frequency in Human iPS Cell-Derived Airway Epithelium Cultured at the Air-Liquid Interface Using Ciliary Motion Analysis Technology."
